The university continues to be recognized for its academic strength nationally in the latest U.S News & World Report rankings of graduate programs.

Among the programs ranked each year in America’s Best Graduate Schools — business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing — U-M maintained top-15 rankings in all six categories.

The annual list shows consistently high rankings for U-M programs:

• The Medical School’s research ranking rose to 10th in the nation, up two spots from last year, and its primary-care ranking moved up three spots to fifth.

• The College of Engineering ranked sixth, climbing two spots from last year. 

• The Stephen M. Ross School of Business maintained its previous ranking at No. 11.

• The Law School dropped one spot to 11th.

• The School of Education dropped three spots to 11th.

• In its first year of statistical ranking, the School of Nursing is sixth in the nation, the same ranking it earned when last ranked in 2011, on reputation only.

U.S. News also published new rankings, based on peer assessment only, for graduate areas in health, which were last ranked in 2011. These schools and programs are only ranked every three years. The School of Public Health and its Health Care Management program maintained their previous rankings of fourth and first, respectively.

For the third year, U.S. News ranked Best Online Programs recognizing entirely online programs. U-M rankings in this area are:

• Business MBA ranked 57th, up one spot from No. 58. (UM-Dearborn).

• Engineering ranked ninth, down from No. 7. (UM-Ann Arbor).

In addition to the main program rankings, U-M was rated on 41 specialties. Of those, higher education administration and nuclear engineering were ranked first. Nursing administration and industrial/manufacturing engineering were ranked second.

All told, 35 of the 41 specialties in which U-M is ranked either improved their positions or stayed the same.

Many specialties did not receive new rankings this year. But among those that did, U-M was ranked as follows:

• Business specialties — accounting (7), entrepreneurship (7), executive MBA (6), finance (9), international (4), management (3), marketing (6), part-time MBA (6), production/operations (3) and supply chain/logistics (9).

• Education specialties — administration/supervision (12), curriculum/instruction (5), education policy (7), educational psychology (3), elementary education (4), higher education administration (1) and secondary education (3).

• Engineering specialties — aerospace (4), civil (7), computer (6), electrical/electronic (7), environmental (4), industrial/manufacturing (2), materials (10), mechanical (5) and nuclear (1).

• Law specialties — clinical training (13), international law (8) and tax law (13).

• Medical specialties — AIDS (16), family medicine (7), geriatrics (4), internal medicine (7), pediatrics (12) and women’s health (7).

• Nursing specialties — administration (2), nurse practitioner — adult/gerontology, primary care (3), nurse midwifery (10), nurse practitioner — adult/gerontology, acute care (10), nurse practitioner — family (3), and nurse practitioner — primary care (9).
