U-M United Way campaign continues tradition of giving
The University of Michigan community once again came together in support of neighbors across southeast Michigan, surpassing its goal for the 2025 United Way Employee Giving Campaign.
Faculty, staff and retirees contributed $1,011,964, underscoring U-M’s commitment to service and community impact.
“This campaign reflects the very best of the University of Michigan,” said President Domenico Grasso. “The generosity of our employees demonstrates a shared belief that strengthening our communities strengthens us all. I am deeply grateful to everyone who chose to give and help make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”

Co-chairs Chris Kolb, vice president for government relations, and Tony Denton, senior vice president and chief environmental, social and governance officer for Michigan Medicine, emphasized that the campaign’s success was driven by collective action across the university.
“Every contribution, no matter the size, represents a personal commitment to lifting up our communities,” Kolb said. “The engagement we saw this year speaks to how strongly the U-M community believes in the mission of United Way and the impact it delivers throughout our region.”
Denton echoed that sentiment, noting the power of shared purpose.
“It’s inspiring to see faculty, staff and retirees rally around a cause that directly supports families and individuals facing real challenges,” he said. “This campaign is a reminder of how much we can accomplish when we come together.”
Funds raised through the 2025 campaign will support United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s work in advancing health, educational opportunity and financial stability. These investments help strengthen local nonprofits and expand access to critical services for individuals and families in Washtenaw County and across the region.
As the university looks ahead to the 2026 campaign, leaders expressed appreciation for the volunteers, advocates and donors whose efforts made this year’s success possible — and reaffirmed U-M’s longstanding partnership with United Way for Southeastern Michigan.
